GREG LOCKHART
RUNNING FOR MAYOR OF ST. MARYS, GA
Growing up in St. Marys, I was fortunate to experience firsthand the strong sense of community and shared values that make our town so special. Though I’ve had the opportunity to live other places, I always knew that St. Marys was where my heart belonged.
A Strong History
Growing up in St. Marys was a special blessing. Perhaps it was youthful ignorance of the options available elsewhere, but I never wished that I was living somewhere else.
I attended St. Marys Elementary School and Camden County High School (which was located in St. Marys at the time), graduating in 1982. I earned a BS in Microbiology from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and then attended Emory University to pursue my Master of Public Health in Epidemiology.
I had begun working in my parent’s print shop, Camden Printing, while in grade school. And I was fortunate to use the skills I learned there to work in several other printing companies while I pursued my higher education. In 1990, I was hired directly out of the MPH program at Emory to work for the State Public Health Department, District 1 (Rome, Ga.) as the program coordinator for epidemiology. I later became one of the first Public Health Planners to be hired in the state of Georgia. While working for the State I was chosen to lead the FDA funded state task force on HIV/AIDS fraudulent therapies and information, a position I served in for almost 4 years.
In 1996, Sue and I moved back home because we knew it was the perfect place to raise our children, Jared and Connor (even though Sue was not originally from St. Marys, it had always felt like home to her). I went back to work for my family’s printing business, and in 2004, Sue and I purchased the business from them. We later expanded the business to Fernandina Beach, Fl through the acquisition of two printing companies. In 2021 we purchased the newspaper publication “The Coastal Shopper and News” which mails to all Camden residents twice a month.
From the very beginning of our return to St. Marys, I became actively involved in community service. A list of the organizations I have served in is below.
Community Volunteer Roles
In almost every organization listed below, I ascended to the leadership role for that organization. This was because not only was I willing to serve, but others within these organization’s placed their trust in me to lead them. I have at my core a strong desire to serve my community and town and have come to the realization that I have a strong love of St Marys.
